Landscapes made to be lived in for generations.
Landscape architecture & installation · Fairfield County and the Hudson Valley
Philosophy
We design gardens the way good architects design houses: from the land up, with materials that age well, and with as much attention to the walk from the car as to the view from the terrace.

A garden of thresholds
Clipped hedges as walls, stone steps as doors. A sloped lawn divided into rooms that reveal themselves one at a time.
Hillside residence · Planting and stone. Illustrative project.

Water as the quiet centre
A still, dark pool set level with the lawn, so the sky and the house double in it from the terrace.
Country house · Water and terrace. Illustrative project.

Grasses that move with the weather
Drifts of ornamental grasses replacing a lawn that never thrived, cut back once a year and beautiful in snow.
Meadow garden · Planting. Illustrative project.
Materials

Stone
Granite, bluestone and local fieldstone, chosen at the quarry.

Water
Still pools, rills and fountains engineered for New England winters.

Planting
Structure from hedges and trees, seasons from perennials and grasses.

Light
Low, warm and sparing, so the garden is still dark at night.
